Redcliffe City Council Library
The Snapshot database of historical photographs of Redcliffe was made possible by a Federation Grant from the Commonwealth Government as represented by the Department of Communications Information Technology and the Arts.
Photos are an illustration of our past, and as such, they represent an important part of our heritage. Through photos we can look back to see people, places and events captured in a moment of time - captured for as long as the photo survives. The purpose of this photographic database is to ensure that these images do survive for the use of future generations.
Redcliffe is especially lucky in that we have an excellent photographic record of our history. Photos were being taken here in the late 1800s and have continued to be taken ever since. We are also lucky that a concerted effort has been made to collect these photos and save them for posterity.
The City of Redcliff is located 45 minutes north of Queensland's capital city, Brisbane, and has a population of approximately 50,000 people. Situated on a peninsula, this city is only 37 square kilometres in area and consists of seven suburbs, Clontarf, Kippa-Ring, Margate, Redcliffe, Rothwell, Scarborough and Woody Point. Redcliffe was the site of the first penal settlement in Moreton Bay.
